Under the regional technical assistance TA 8330-REG “Harmonizing the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Power Systems to Facilitate Regional Power Trade, international and national consultants have been engaged to support GMS Regional Power Trade Coordination Committee (RPTCC), the Working Group on Performance Standards and Grid Codes (WGPG), and the Working Group on Regulatory Issues (WGPG) to conduct feasibility assessments of priority regional power projects to be commissioned from 2022-2030. The assessments include generation and transmission infrastructure for power trade among Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries (Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia). ADB reduced the scope of services during the project implementation after consulting the GMS countries. The study focusses on Lao PDR and Myanmar. Key Components Feasibility study of Tachileik – Kengtung transmission line development to be commissioned in 2023; Conduct system study of high voltage power transmission systems in Myanmar (230 kV, 66 kV and future 500 kV) and Lao PDR with the objective of interconnecting the two power systems; Assess the technical gaps and recommend options in synchronizing Myanmar power system with Lao PDR and Thailand power systems.
