This project, funded by the European Union and implemented by AETS, focuses on identifying suitable investment areas in the solid waste management (SWM) sector with respect to green waste management technologies.
The project was initiated with discussions with ministries such as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on policy framework and practices. These discussions were followed by two review meetings organised with industry experts in New Delhi and Chennai. The final workshop was organised on July 30th, 2019 in New Delhi.
The workshop was convened by Mr. Sanjay Dhawan, Managing Director of AETS India, who introduced the project and shared its intended objectives. Mr. Edwin Koekkoek, Counsellor - Energy & Climate Action of the EU delegation, gave a brief outline of the EU-India partnership and the EU’s activities in the environment & waste management sector in India.
The concluding workshop focused on presenting the prevalent scenario of solid waste management and identified investment areas and concepts with participation from developers, technology providers, subject experts and business associations, in order to gain valuable insights based on their working experience in ground implementation of waste management projects.
The team of experts, led by Mr. Anil Bansal, gave detailed presentations and put forward a thorough overview of the solid waste management sector in India and the challenges ahead. Mr. Bansal further highlighted the issues endemic to the SWM value chain regarding technology and financing. The participants discussed potential financing options from European financial institutions which could be adapted to Indian conditions to enable cooperation between SMEs of Europe and India.
Mr. Shouvik Dutta, Sr. Programme Manager of the EU delegation, made concluding remarks and shared EU’s vision of partnering with India on initiatives in the Solid Waste Management sector, particularly technology transfers from SMEs in Europe.
