The policy objectives of Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) are to support sustainable development along both sides of the EU's external borders, help reduce differences in living standards along these borders and address the challenges and opportunities following EU enlargement. In particular, CBC aims at: Promoting economic and social development in regions on both sides of the common borders dressing common challenges in fields such as environment, public health and the prevention of and fight against organised crimeEnsuring efficient and secure bordersPromoting local cross border 'people to people' actions. The mid-term evaluation will provide the European Commission services as well - as the wider public monitoring the implementation of the cross border cooperation programmes - with sufficient information to make a general overall independent judgment of the extent to which the ENPI CBC programmes are likely to achieve their objectives.
