Saint Lucia is currently totally dependent on imported fossil fuels for its energy needs. However, there is potential for geothermal, wind, solar and - to a very limited extent - hydro energy. The Government of Saint Lucia was therefore seeking to exploit these renewable energy sources in order to diversify the national energy portfolio, reduce reliance on imported fuels and achieve environmental benefits. In this context, the project aimed to support the Government of Saint Lucia to develop an overall strategic plan for the implementation of policy initiatives in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
