The EU Action Plan for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) sets out measures to improve forest sector governance, combat illegal logging and curb the related trade in illegally harvested timber. The objective of the meeting is to give a better understanding to the participants of what is FLEGT in theory and in practice, and how they can coordinate better among themselves, with delegations and with EC staff in Brussels. Through formal presentations and interactive discussions with case studies, participants will get a better oversight of the role of all stakeholders in the process and particularly of opportunities for collaboration. 62 participants coming from beneficiaries from EC grants for FLEGT related projects or persons from other organisations working with FLEGT (e.g. representatives of FLEGT Liberia, WWF Gabon, Chinese Academy of Forestry, etc.), sectoral desks/policy officers dealing with natural resource governance, staff from EU Delegations and experts from Member States involved in the FLEGT process attended the conference on the 19th and 20th of November 2011 in Brussels.
