The electricity transmission and distribution system in Mauritius needs to be reinforced and equipped to adjust to demand and to the new configuration of production units, which will be spread over the island. Renewable energy use (biomass, solar and wind) is a strategic goal for the country. The objective is to increase the penetration of renewable energy taking into account the integration capabilities on the power grid. In the context of Mauritius and a network that is not interconnected, analysing the integration capabilities as well as defining measures to control this distributed generation is crucial to enable the increased penetration of renewable energies without jeopardising the overall balance of the network.
